HK Super Market on Western Avenue
I’ve heard the name of this supermarket in numerous Korean and English permutations — HK Super, HanKook Super Market, Hangook Super Market, Hankook Supermarket, Hangook Supermarket, 한국 슈퍼 마켓 , 한국슈퍼 …
한국 (Hangook) means Korea and 슈퍼 (Syupeo) is Korean for super, which is short for supermarket. The sign in front says open 7 AM to 12 PM, but of course they mean 12 AM, as in midnight. The sign next to it says there’s a 약국 (drugstore) on site. Bosco Cake Salon sells Western pastries inside.
I would venture to declare that this is the largest Korean grocery store north of Wilshire Boulevard. (Koreatown Galleria Market on Olympic is the largest south of Wilshire).
UPDATE: California Market on Beverly is larger?
Just noticed recently that each checkout line is named after a neighborhood in Seoul — Myeongdong, etc. Cool ~
